There is a lot that goes into planning an extended traveling trip around the world. It’s one of those things that everybody probably has on their to-do list, but as life progresses, things take you by surprise. The finances don’t line up, kids come into the picture much faster than you thought they would, work is challenging to get off, and the sheer amount of planning that needs to be done can often be enough to make you decide to say, “It’s just not gonna happen”.
Travel hold so many benefits for the person who makes it happen, so it’s in your best interest to do all that you can do so that you can say that you had the experience, you lived a little, and you got to see some of the most beautiful sights in the entire world.
If you’ve decided you’re just going to do it, here is how you can prepare for an extended world travel session:
Consider Selling Some Stuff
In order to take off on your adventure and circumnavigate the globe, you’re going to have to settle how you’re going to finance everything. This might mean that you have to plan out your trip a couple of years in advance in order to put aside enough money.
This might also mean that if you’re going to be gone for a year or more, you might consider just selling your car, your house, and other personal belongings that you’ll have no use for while you’re gone. If the market’s good, you could make enough on your home to cover the cost of travel. If you work while you’re away, you can come back with enough money to start over. It’s a big step, but it’s at least something to consider.
Establish Work Connections Ahead of Time
If you start your travels with a certain amount of money and you stick to your budget, you might get away with not having to find work, but if you’re wanting to get the full experience, work might be just what you’re looking for. If you do want to work while you’re away, establish your connections ahead of time. Call into temp agencies and find other means of employment. Let them know when you’ll be coming into town and you’ll feel a lot better about your travels because you know that whatever happens, you have the ability to make money because you planned in advance.
Gather Your Gear
When you’re traveling within countries that are similar to yours, it’s going to be easy to acclimate and find a lot of the things you need and use in everyday life. If you’re going to foreign countries where the people live very different lives from you, you’re going to want to gather the gear that you need to have at before you go. You’ll be able to buy toothpaste almost anywhere, but when it comes to the essentials, what can’t you live without on your trip? Gather the gear and enjoy your travels!
