A lot of people choose to make a move outside of their own country.  As an expat they live a life as someone exposed to a new way of living, speaking and even behaving.  Many people love this change of lifestyle, while others struggle more with immigrating to a new place away from what they know.

If you’re someone who loves to have an adventure and expose yourself to new things, then living abroad may be the perfect lifestyle for you.  Before you jump on a plane and assume it’s easy to do, however, it’s important to know that it’s not that simple. Because of immigration laws, not everyone can live wherever they want anywhere on the planet.

If you’d like to explore the idea of living in a new place then here are some of the ways that it may be possible to make a reality.

A Relationship

Falling in love with someone in a new place is often the reason why many people end up becoming expats.  Since marrying your partner is one of the most guaranteed ways to be able to relocate to live where they are from and vice versa, a lot of people go this route.

It’s important to remember, however, that this isn’t something that you should ever fabricate.  Lying about being in a relationship with someone just for immigration purposes can lead to serious legal complications.  People who lie about being in a relationship to be able to live somewhere only ruin it for the people who are in genuine relationships trying to get visas to be with each other.

Family Heritage

If you have parents or grandparents who are from another country, then you may qualify for a passport.  Not only can you move to that country, but you will be a citizen with full rights and benefits.

It may be in your interest to look at your family tree and see if you are a candidate.

Military

Joining the military is an excellent opportunity to visit the world and live in a variety of locations all over.

Many people join the military for a few years of their lives for this very reason.  When they feel they’re ready to settle down, they change careers for one which is less mobile.

Career Opportunity

If you are highly skilled in a particular career, then you may be able to live abroad and work with a work visa.

Many countries won’t allow you to stay for a job which a person from that country could do. Otherwise, you’re stealing their local citizens’ jobs.  However, if you have a very specific skill, then you are more likely to be approved for a visa.
