Stuck for night life ideas on your visit to the big smoke? But you don’t want just another bar crawl? Have a look at a few slightly more original ideas to explore when you hit the tiles in London.

Try Themed Rooftop Parties

If you don’t often get to try a rooftop party, why not venture a themed one. The same people who brought you the South Pole Saloon, now run Brixton Beach Boulevard, on their rooftop space in London. It runs from May till the 28th August. Think 1980’s staff costume and Miami beach style fare, with summer cocktails, late night parties, DJ sets and burrito style food menus. The outdoor space is piled with sand to wade through, when they hold their rooftop Beach Carnival, or the indoor rooms promise variously immersive themed performances on different nights.

Explore Alternative Cinema

Brought about by pop-up cinema experts Rooftop Film; the Underground Film Club is situated at London’s disused Charing Cross tube station. Then the nearby Vaults offers popcorn, hot dogs and alcohol-free cocktails in keeping with the Transport for London regulations. They screen a mix of cult classic and new release films in their roomy underground tunnels. We expect the atmosphere and acoustics will be great in the cavernous surroundings.

Go To A Casino

An underrated option for many, there is always the option to try your luck at one of the city’s casinos, not least the four-floor Hippodrome in Leicester Square. You’ll find all the requisite slots and tables, plus large screen sports and cabaret acts. Or the nearby Empire has poker, roulette, blackjack tables and an Asian Restaurant. If you fancy a night in or just want to test your blackjack skills before you head off, you can take advantage of the bonus offers online first, from UK based brand Coral.

Book A Supper Club Event

Super clubs have been doing the rounds for many years and taken on many incarnations. Being taken in directions only London based companies can conjure, you can expect something different always from the Chambers of Flavour – their Gingerline events have ranged from puppet workshops to a submarine mess hall. This year they give an immersive theatrical dining experience at secret locations around East London. Expect these tickets to go fast, though.

Chill At a Board Game Café

For something a little less frenetic there is London’s first board game café, Draughts, where you can natter over a game of Monopoly or, erm, draughts. Enjoy a tipple or two over your game without struggling to be heard over blaring music, for a more relaxed pace night out. Nibbles are offered too. Sometimes on a Saturday night out the queues can get surprisingly long as this has rapidly become popular.
