Barcelona is the second largest city in Spain. It is also one of the most popular tourist destinations in Spain and one of the most attractive cities of Europe. The capital city of the Catalonian region has something for everyone, from family travelers to packs of young travelers to the cruise ship crowds. People from all over the world descend on the city during the summer months. Although the tourist population is always on the high side, you will never complain of boredom when you are in Barcelona as it is diverse in nature and caters to all kinds of travelers.

For the history lovers, there is the Barri Gotic that dates back to the Roman times. It is a maze of tiny streets that turn around and open into beautiful plazas and squares. Some of the highlights of the Gotic includes The Barcelona History museum, the Picasso Museum and the Gothic Cathedral which is located in the heart of Barry Gotic. For the architecture aficionados, the Catalan architecture is a delight with the works of Antoni Gaudi sprinkled all over the city. You can take the Gaudi tour covering some of his important works like La Sagrada Familia, Park Güell, Casa Mila, and Casa Batllo. A notable inclusion in this tour could be the Gaudi Fountain located in the Parc de la Ciutadella. Those who know the work of Gaudi often claim that he outdid himself with this big fountain, which is a tribute to the god Neptune.

Foodies can try the different local Catalan dishes, the Pinchos and sumptuous amounts of fish available in both traditional and new age eateries. There are numerous food tours available that will certainly make your stomach rumble with hunger. La Boqueria, a huge food market just off Las Ramblas could be your single stop shop for all your food requirements when you are in Barcelona, be it breakfast or snacks for straight consumption or fruits and other fresh ingredients that you can take home and cook with. There are a lot of hotels to discover and enjoy in Barcelona. Based on your budget, you can always find a cozy place to tuck yourself in, be it dorm rooms or private rooms or campsites or even private apartments.

No wonder there are many who come back year after year to dig deeper into the food, history, and culture of this great city. You never get enough of the city as its raw infectious energy and streets that are full of history surprises and inspires you every time you visit it just like it is the first time.
