With so many great vacation destinations in the state of California, it can be hard to choose. From the ancient redwood forests of the north to the beaches and glitz in the south, California has a lot to offer the adventurous traveler. The heat of the summer may not be the ideal time to visit certain parts of the state, with highs sometimes reaching 120 degrees. The Pacific offers a much needed reprieve from the heat in some cities along the coast.

San Diego is a great consideration when looking for the perfect spot; citizens enjoy the perfect temperature of 70 degrees year round. San Diego is a city rich in history, originally settled in 1769, and is considered the birthplace of California. Situated along the Mexican border, San Diego offers many public beaches and beautiful views: let’s look at three reasons specifically why you should go!

Summer Time Attractions

San Diego is home to several world class parks and attractions. Known worldwide, the San Diego Zoo is a 100-acre facility that houses over 650 species, including the largest population of Panda bears in North America. The zoo offers an aerial tram to get a birds’ eye view of the park, along with guided bus tours. Founded in 1916, the San Diego Zoo has grown to care for more than 4,000 animals.

For those with children – or who are just children at heart – missing Legoland California should be a sin. Located just north of San Diego along Interstate 5, this park has everything the Lego lover could want. Legoland offers rides, shows, and themed play areas for the very young. You will find those play areas scattered throughout the park to satisfy builders of all ages.

Historic Gaslamp Quarter

The Gaslamp Quarter, one of San Diego’s oldest neighborhoods, is a historic district in the heart of the city. Known for its nightlife, the 16½ blocks that make up the Gaslamp Quarter are home to clubs, karaoke halls, eateries, bars, and pool halls. Ninety-four historic buildings make up this stretch of town, with most of them being built during the Victorian era. Take a night out in this part of town if you want to cut loose a little and have some fun.

City Known for Craft Beer

San Diego is home to more than 140 breweries, making it one of the biggest craft brewing cities in the United States. 30th Street in North Parks is where you can find many of their concoctions. More than a dozen bars, microbreweries and tasting rooms inhabit this small space with hundreds of beers from which to choose. Considered by some to be the best place for craft beer in the US, you have to try what this city has to offer if you’re a beer nut.

San Diego is the perfect vacation destination with lots to see and do. You can escape the summer heat and enjoy their almost room temperature climate year-round while also taking in the beautiful scenery and sights. Make Southern California your destination this summer – you’ll be glad you did!
