Fishing is a favorite past time for many people. However, without plenty of practice, many fisherman find they run into a few annoying issues. One of these is the development of bird’s nests in their fishing line. While these issues can be fixed, it is much better and will help save valuable fishing time if you simply prevent them from occurring in the first place. If you want to enjoy your Costa Rica sport fishing excursion and avoid the issues of a bird’s nest in your fishing line, use the tips here.
Practice
You know the old saying, practice makes perfect, and this applies to fishing, too. Even with the most advanced, high tech baitcaster reels, it takes a very well-practiced hand to fully prevent the occurrence of bird’s nests. The fact is that even the pros experience these issues from time to time, therefore keep practicing to prevent the issue.
Avoid Loading the Rod
This is a tip you may not have heard before. However, the additional flip to a bent fishing pole when you issue a hard cast may cause the inner spool to rotate at an uncontrollable and unexpected rate.
Avoid Overfilling Your Spool Line
This is a pretty rookie mistake; however, one that is still seen quite often. If you wind up putting too much line on the spool, then you are just asking for an issue. Take some time to ensure you add enough line, but no so much that a bird’s nest is inevitable.
Pay Attention
Your spinning reel should have a smooth feel. If you notice a flap or tic sound or feel this when you are retrieving, then look down and try to catch that soon-to-happen pileup before it becomes a serious issue. If you have a drag that is somewhat loose, then you need to pull on the actual line and then ensure the loop in the spool is event. Otherwise it can slip free. Once you have done this cast the line and roll it back to see if you feel any other issue present.
