With feelings of nostalgia permeating my soul for Manchester, I recently took a trip back home to rejuvenate my spirit and reconnect with my past. From the lights along the River Irwell to the silhouette of the Pennines, my heart always beats for my first love, Manchester and all the memories that I made as a child growing up there. Let me share my favourite activities and attractions that have special meaning in my heart.
Attractions for Your Family
I believe that my love for museums grew from my visits to the Manchester Museum when I was a young girl. Here your children can watch the world come alive and experience some of the most interesting exhibits to peak their interest in nature and prompt them to want to learn even more. Another attraction that you’ll want to visit is the Chester Zoo that has over 110 acres on which you can explore. Here you can see elephants, rhinos, and a variety of animals from around the world. All children love Legos and taking a day trip to LEGOLAND Discovery Centre will be well worth the time that you spend with your children in this hands on location.
Top Shopping Spots
I always seem to spend a great deal of time shopping when I travel back home to Manchester and Manchester Arndale is one of my favourite locations to get some much-needed retail therapy. There are 240 stores here under one roof; I can shop Next, Topshop, Oasis, and Domo without having to leave the immediate area. Another favourite store is the House of Fraser which is eight floors of exceptional brands from Whistles to mac and Mulberry. If you enjoy designer brands you must visit both Marks and Spencer and Debenhams for a wide array of products that are to die for. From catchy socks to Betty Jackson designs you’ll be sure to find just what you need at one of these retail giants.
My Dining Selections
I’m quite tiny but I certainly enjoy a delicious meal at one of my favourite home-town restaurants. Let me share with you my top picks and tell you why I love eating here.
- Manchester House is my top choice because of the fixed price lunches and the exquisite interior design which adds a touch of elegance to any meal.
- When I’m in the mood for a tiny and intimate location that can serve up delicious cuisine that locals love, I got to Aumbry in Prestwich. They use fresh and locally produced ingredients that are flavourful and delightful to my tastebuds.
- When I’m home in Manchester and want fish or meat for my evening meal, I always go to James Martin where traditional British favourites are award-winning and outstandingly prepared. The fine quality and impeccable service here is exceptional and makes this one of my top choices.
Manchester will always be home to my heart; the memories that I’ve made throughout my lifetime attending family attractions, taking shopping sprees with friends, and dining in some of the most beautiful restaurants will always draw me back to my roots for reenergizing my spirit.
