Brit’s love a good holiday, and have a long history with it. From workers in the midlands escaping to the Blackpool Pier in the Victorian period; holidaying changed with the rise of commercial air travel after the Second World War, and the advent of holiday companies like Thomas Cook creating package holidays, where the public could soak up some sun abroad. , and the beginning of the all inclusive package holidays. People now associate “holidays” with the chance to go abroad to an exotic location.

However, that is a trend that has been changing recently. As people have become more aware of climate change, they are also more worried about the environmental impact of their air miles. Combined with the fact that people have considerably less money to spend after the 2008 recession, and other issues like shifting foreign exchange rates, and more recently due to the pandemic; the UK has now become a leading holiday destination. Domestic holidays are back, and are trendy after being tagged with the staycation label.

Whether it’s traditional caravan holidays in Devon, various escapes to Scotland or exploring the wonders of the Cotswolds, we have something here for you.

A Scottish cruise on the Lord of the Glens

Scotland has plenty to offer; some of the country’s best hotels, landscapes and cultural wonders to experience. One of the best ways to get a taste of this place in the world is to take a luxurious cruise, sailing on the Lord of the Glens ship, seeing Scotland in style. On this cruise experience, you will see the nation’s stunning coastline, with some of the highlights being the picture perfect town of Oban to the historic ruins of Urquhart Castle. It’s more than just a lovely landscape though, with stops like the quaint Tobermory (where the hit tv show Balamory was filmed), the centre of the whisky world.

The Idyllic Cotswolds and it’s famous gardens

The Cotswolds can be an idyllic holiday destination, with their quaint little villages, country pubs and green spaces. It is also home to some of the most beautiful gardens in the country, which is why we are recommending it. If you enjoy an evening watching Gardeners world, then the Cotswolds is perfect for you with Prince Charles’ home and gardens at Highgrove, as well as the famous Hidcote and Sezincote gardens.

Explore the Scottish Highlands and enjoy the Hogwarts Express

Whether you are a fan of the wizarding world or not, the Scottish Highlands is a beautiful place to explore. One of its now world famous attractions is the Jacobite steam train. You too can take the trip that Hogwarts students take in the train, across the 21-arch Glenfinnan Viaduct. Unfortunately it can’t literally transport you to Hogwarts, but you can enjoy the glorious views of Ben Nevis, Loch Morar and Loch Nevis.

The stunning sands of Woolacombe bay

If a cruise in Scotland or exploring gardens in the Cotswolds isn’t your speed; a beach holiday  at Woolacombe bay is the place for you. With stunning views out onto the sea and the famous woolacombe sands just a walk away from the resort, the holiday park set in North Devon is a great British holiday destination. Alongside its wonderful setting, the site itself has a lot to offer.

With a fun water flume, nature trails and an impressive climbing wall, there are plenty of high octane activities to throw yourself into at the park. If you enjoy a slightly slower pace of life there are also several more mellow activities. If you want to relax there is a well heated indoor pool as well as incredible spa facilities you can make use of; or if a steam room doesn’t appeal, there are plenty of activities where you can bring out your inner artist, doing arts and crafts tasks  like pottery painting.
